<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can prevent abnormal images from being generated, by correcting the tilt of an original reference scale by detecting the tilt of a reading optical axis with reading data of a CCD sensor. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a contact glass 4, a first original scale 38, against which the first side of a reading object is bumped and aligned, a lighting lamp 5 for exposing the original placed on the contact glass 4 with a second original scale 39 aligned at the second side and adhered to the contact glass 4, in a state with the second original scale 39 for aligning the second side is held at a substantially 90°, an image reader 1 for guiding the reflected light of the original irradiated by this lamp 5 to a CCD sensor 12 via a lens 11 by first and second carriages having mirrors 7, 8 and 9, deflecting means 30, 33 of a laser beam modulated, in response to the image data, and a lens system 32 for focusing the laser beam on a photosensitive drum 14.
