PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuously variable transmission requiring a slight structural space in the axial direction. SOLUTION: One of a pair of conical disks is axially movably supported in the form of axially movable conical disks 3 and 10, and loaded and unloaded by a mechanical pressing device through an operating disk 4. The mechanical pressing device comprises a pressing sloped surface 16, a compression spring 17, and rollers disposed on a roller retainer 12. The axially movable conical disks 3 and 10 are supported in contact with the rollers 14, 11, and 30 at the edge parts thereof. The contact support acts so that a force from a wrapping transmission means 8 acting coaxially on the conical disks 3 and 10 does not cause the tilting of the conical disks 3 and 10 based on the axial support of the movable conical disks 3 and 10 produced by the rollers 14, 11, and 30.
