PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer which can remove dust or the like sticking to a thermal head and print a high-quality image, even when a recording sheet of differing size is used. SOLUTION: This thermal printer 1 has a first and a second roller 3 and 4 supported by a rocking plate 5 at predetermined intervals and the rocking plate 5 is able to rock in a first position in which the thermal head 2 can move up/down with respect to the first roller 3 and also in a second position in which the thermal head 2 can move up/down with respect to the second roller 4. Thus when data are printed in a first and a second recording medium 6 and 9 of differing size, the switching of the first and the second roller 3 and 4 can be achieved by rocking the rocking plate 5 to the first or the second roller 3 or 4, the roller parts 3b and 4b of which are formed respectively to the length corresponding to the width of the first and the second recording medium 6 and 9.
