The invention relates to a media gateway system, comprising a central MGW and one or more remote MGW The central MGW includes: a central gateway controlling module, for controlling the transmission of media stream and the exchange of service; a central internal protocol transmission module, for transmitting MGW controlling protocol sent by the central gateway controlling module to TDM network form used by a central TDM interface module; the central TDM interface module, for providing the interface from central MGW to IP network; a central media transmission module, for achieving the form transmission of media stream between TDM interface module and IP interface module. The remote MGW includes: a remote TDM exchange module, for making exchange of voice road and service data among subscribers below the remote MGW; the remote TDM interface module, and the remote internal protocol transmission module, having the same use with the central corresponding module. The invention could achieve load close uninstall and concentrate maintain, decrease the cost of transmission and managing.
