<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus realizing the reduction of the stock control cost and the production cost of a device unit attachably/detachably installed in the image forming apparatus, forming an image without causing failure even in attaching by mistake the device unit in which a different kind of toner is stored, and having high reliability and operability. <P>SOLUTION: The device unit 20 is provided with a toner storing part 23, a part of or all of the partition 26 of which is formed of a light transmissive member 26a. The kind of the toner T in the toner storing part 23 is optically detected through the member 26a from the outside of the unit 20 by a detection means 70.
