<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic transaction device that can carry out procedures for opening a new account by verifying personal identification and documents for identifying the individual, without the customer having to visit a counter of a financial institution. <P>SOLUTION: The device comprises a host interface part that is connected to a host computer, an account processing part 18 provided with an image-processing and character-recognizing part that reads entries on an application form for opening a new account, and a card/receipt-processing part 13 that reads information stored in an IC card-type ID card.
