PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a synchronizer for a manual transmission, in which abrasion of a balk ring cone surface can be effectively prevented, and in which operation force in downshift can be reduced. SOLUTION: In this synchronizer for a manual transmission, shifting operation moves a coupling sleeve 1, and the coupling sleeve 1 pushes a balk ring 2 to generate friction torque at a gear cone surface 32a of a main gear 3 and a balk ring cone surface 2a. As the friction torque is generated, rotation difference between the coupling sleeve 1 and a main gear 3 is eliminated as rotation synchronizing action, so that engagement shift between the coupling sleeve 1 and a clutch gear part 31b of the main gear 3 is completed. Between the balk ring 2 and the clutch gear part 3b of the main gear 3, a separation force generating member (pressure-contact ball member 4) is set to generate force in such a direction as to separate the balk ring cone surface 2a of the balk ring 2 from the gear cone surface 3a of the main gear 3.
