PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small, highly-efficient, and high-output electric motor, by maintaining the high efficiency of electric motors that have been improved in recent years for higher efficiency, and by reducing the cogging torque, even in the combination of the magnetic pole pieces of a stator core having fewer number of poles and the number of magnetic poles of a rotor, which had conventionally been considered difficult to be achieved. SOLUTION: In the stator core for a permanent magnet electric motor, in which the number of magnetic poles of the rotor is fixed as the integral multiplies of 2, the magnetic pole pieces of the stator core are fixed as the integral multiplies of 3, on slots of which coils are provided, and which has a permanent magnet rotor that faces the magnetic pole pieces via gaps, the magnetic pole pieces are split by providing two or more slits that cross the magnetic pole piece head portions of a plurality of the magnetic pole pieces arranged on the stator core, that pass magnetic pole piece pillar portions, and that is symmetric to the center line of each magnetic pole piece in length reaching magnetic pole piece root portions so that three or more magnetic paths are formed and direct groove magnetic pole pieces are obtained.
