METHOD OF CONVENIENTLY DETECTING STRAIN PRODUCING CLASS C .BETA.-LACTAMASE

A method of judging whether a microorganism to be tested is a strain produci ng class C .beta.-lactamase or not. A class C .beta.-lactamase inhibitor and a .beta.-lactam agent are placed at a definite interval over the surface of a solid medium which is coated with the microorganism to be tested. Then the solid medium is cultured. After culturing, judgment is made based on whether or not an inhibitory zone formed around the .beta.-lactam agent is enlarged toward the class C .beta.-lactamase inhibitor side. A mixture of a class C .beta.-lactamase inhibitor with a .beta.-lactam agent and a .beta.-lactam agent are placed at a definite interval over the surface of a solid medium which is coated with the microorganism to be tested. Then the solid medium i s cultured. After culturing, judgment is made based on the difference between the inhibitory zone formed around the mixture and the inhibitory zone formed around the .beta.-lactam agent. A judgment kit wherein a disc containing a class C .beta.-lactamase inhibitor and a disc containing a .beta.-lactam age nt are provided on a base strip. A judgment kit wherein a disc containing a cla ss C .beta.-lactamase inhibitor with a .beta.-lactam agent and a disc containin g a .beta.-lactam agent are provided on a base strip.
