The method involves activating turn indicators (8, 14) to output light beams by a control module (17), when a motor vehicle turns, to illuminate the dark zones along the sides of the vehicle. The output beams of the indicators are maintained in a desired level by the control module (17) when a main light is damaged or upon detection of a fault in the vehicle. The indicators are powered by a power supply unit. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle including a lighting system.
