<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a content distribution system and method, and a content distribution apparatus in which a content providing apparatus is exclusively used without changing the configuration of the content providing apparatus to be controlled when controlling the content providing apparatus via a network. <P>SOLUTION: Content receiving apparatuses 40a, 40b transmit a signal for control for controlling a content providing apparatus 10 to a content distribution apparatus 20 via a network 30. The content distribution apparatus 20 uses a control table wherein information relating to various control signals of the content providing apparatus 10 and information relating to the signal for control are correspondingly stored beforehand, to generate a control signal corresponding to the content providing apparatus 10 from the received signal for control, and transmits the generated control signal to the content providing apparatus 10 to control the content providing apparatus 10.
