摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform data compression/decompression of a 3D medical image for efficiently transmitting and observing the image. SOLUTION: Data showing a group of continuous cross-sectional images of an imaged three dimensional (3D) volume is received (24). The group of the continuous cross-sectional images has a first distance resolution in the z-axis direction and a first spatial resolution in the x-axis and y-axis directions orthogonal to the z-axis. The group of the continuous cross-sectional images is converted in the z-axis direction (26) by a wavelet transformation, or the like, and an axial direction conversion display is produced so that the conversion display of this group has a second distance resolution which is lower than the first distance resolution. The axial direction conversion display is converted in the x-axis and y-axis directions (28), and a spatial conversion display is produced. A device receives the data showing the group and contains a processing module (14) for converting the group of the continuous cross-sectional images in the z-axis direction.
