PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a re-bonded foam block of substantially uniform vertical density distribution from foam flakes in a mold. SOLUTION: A device comprising a box mold with a plunger, in which at least one of its mold side walls can swivel between a vertical position and an outwardly leaned position, is applied. The method comprises the steps of mixing the foam flakes with a binder, swiveling at least one of the box mold side walls outwards so that the cross-sectional area of the box mold increases from a base section upwards, introducing the foam flakes into the box mold, adjusting the mold side wall so that the cross-sectional area of the box mold is constant over its height, compressing the foam flakes by dropping the plunger thereby bonding the foam flakes together, and removing the foam block from the mold.
