PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To overcome weakness in a prior art and other weaknesses by providing a date mechanism which can give a large format to date display. SOLUTION: In the date mechanism for a timepiece, such as a watch, two overlapped upper date ring 4 and lower date ring 6 are included, and the rings 4, 6 cooperate with each drive means. The mark of the lower ring continuously appears at a display zone 30. Two peripheral internal gears extended along each of two stages of upper and lower rows of respective rings 4, 6 are included, gear teeth 10, 12 of the upper and lower rows of the upper ring 4 are made to overlap, gear teeth 18, 20 of the upper and lower rows of the lower ring 6 are put together in a staggered manner, and there are no gear teeth at respective locations 14, 16; 24, 26 of the internal gear of the upper and lower rings 4, 6.
