PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for ink jet recording head capable of arranging nozzles with high density by increasing the number of heating resistors to be driven simultaneously without altering the size of the substrate. SOLUTION: The substrate for ink jet recording head comprises a plurality of electrothermal converters provided with heating resistors 1103 corresponding to a plurality of ejection ports, respectively, and a pair of electrodes being connected with the heating resistors, a plurality of driving elements 1107 for driving respective heating resistors, common wiring A1106 for connection with one of the pair of electrodes of the electrothermal converters not connected with the driving element, and common wiring B1105 for connection with the driving element. The number (n) of electrothermal converters being driven simultaneously is determined within such a range as the ratio of the sum of resistance Rh of the electrothermal converter and resistance Rd of the driving element to the sum of resistance RlineA on the side of common wiring A and resistance RlineB on the side of common wiring B satisfies following relation (RlineA+RlineB)/(Rh+Rd)<0.05/(0.95n-1).
