Authentication hardware is mounted on a game device or the like used for connection with a game server in a network game environment and executes authentication of a user. The authentication hardware includes: a storage section for storing user authentication information; an authentication information transmission section for encrypting authentication information by using an encryption key given from a server device and transmitting the encrypted information to the server device; an authentication result information reception section for receiving authentication result information from the server device; and an authentication result decryption section for decrypting the authentication result information. The authentication information, for example, can include a user ID and a password. The authentication information is stored in the authentication hardware and it is impossible to reference or copy the content from outside of the hardware. Thus, it is possible to assure security of the authentication information. Accordingly, safety can remarkably be improved as compared to the user authentication method in which a user manually inputs a user ID and a password. |
