A transformer includes a bar-shaped ferrite core, an internal winding wound directly around the ferrite core, an external winding wound on the internal winding, and an insulation shield surrounding the external winding. The external winding is covered with an insulation coating. At the intermediate portion between the winding start portion and the winding end portion of the external winding, the insulation coatings of adjacent external winding lines are apart along the axis of the ferrite core to leave a gap between them and this gap is filled with a molding material. Since the gap is provided between the insulation coatings of the external winding lines, the molding material forming the insulation shield can easily flow between the insulation coating of the external winding and the internal winding, thereby eliminating a vacant space between the internal winding and the external winding so as to obtain stable electric characteristic.
