<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object detection method that can reduce misdetection and can also reduce missed detections, even if illuminating conditions vary or skin tone changes. <P>SOLUTION: A tone map storage part 1 stores a plurality of tone maps, in advance. A tone mapping part 2 uses each map image stored in the tone map storage part 1 on a set of (U, V) channel images to generate map images. A form template storage part 3 stores form templates, in advance. A template matching part 4 applies offset matching using all the form templates to the images generated by the tone-mapping part 2, to calculate the maximum correlation value in the images generated. A correlation value comparison part 5 determines that a hand region has been detected, if the maximum correlation value is larger than a predetermined value. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
