<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a support for image recording material making both high flatness and excellent stiffness compatible in high level, and usable for various image recording materials capable of recording a high quality image, and to provide an effective method for producing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The support for image recording material at least comprises a base paper, wherein the base paper satisfies following inequality A/B≤0.7 in the inequality A is an internal bond strength of the base paper at the 1/3 depth in the depth direction from the surface of at least one face define in JAPAN TAPPI No. 54, and B is an internal bond strength of the base paper define in JAPAN TAPPI No. 54, at the center of the depth direction.
