<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a horizontal type water heater manufactured inexpensively by reducing man-hours for providing baffle plates inside a hot water storage tank. <P>SOLUTION: This horizontal type water heater is provided with the hot water storage tank presenting laterally long cylindrical shape and formed by closing both right and left ends with end plates; an external heating means for heating water flowing out of a bottom part of the hot water storage tank and then allowing hot water to flow in from the upper part of the hot water storage tank; a water supply pipe longitudinally disposed near the bottom part in the hot water storage tank to supply water from a plurality of water supply holes formed facing downward; and the baffle plates each extending while the end in the short side direction abuts on the internal wall surface at least on one side in the longitudinal direction of the hot water storage tank. Both ends in the longitudinal direction of the baffle plate are fixed to the inner surfaces of the end plates. Consequently, there is no need to directly weld the end in the short side direction of the baffle plate to the internal wall surface in the longitudinal direction of the hot water storage tank.
