摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-priced shock absorption type steering column device of simple structure capable of obtaining a large shock absorbing load or a small shock absorbing load when a secondary collision occurs. SOLUTION: An energy absorbing member 52 for absorbing collision energy by deforming with the movement of a steering column 20 forward a vehicle is formed into a U-shape opened toward a rear part of the vehicle, and arranged between vertical walls (support walls) 51b and 51c of a holder 51 freely to move in relation to each other. The energy absorbing member 52 is formed into a shape to make a difference between a collision absorbing load to be obtained by deformation between an intermediate part 52a and one end 52b thereof and a collision absorbing load to be obtained by deformation between the intermediate part 52a and the other end 52c thereof. The energy absorbing member 52 can be locked/unlocked in each of the ends 52b and 52c by an actuator 53 provided on a car body side, and the energy absorbing member 52 can be deformed when the energy absorbing member is pushed by a support (engaging body) 45 provided on the steering column side.
