PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conduct efficient communication even if the content downloading of a ringer melody etc. is positioned as one of services offered from a content provider to a portable terminal. SOLUTION: In a content distribution system, a web server transmits a ringer melody in accordance with a ringer melody request from a portable telephone set (step S208). When a version of an application that can be downloaded is not installed in the portable telephone set (steps S202 and S203), a portable telephone side is caused to once update the application (step S106), and downloading processing is performed.
