PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve an efficient use of an FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) concerning an electronic endoscope unit which can realize a plurality of extensive functions by an extensive function setting command. SOLUTION: The electronic endoscope unit 1 has a main board 16 in which a read signal is applied to the electronic endoscope and image signals are taken in to carry out a prescribed basic image processing, and an extension board 17 in which a prescribed extension processing is carried out for the image signals processed in the main board 16. The extension board 17 has the FPGA 21 which can build up a prescribed processing function by processing function configuration data for the realization of the prescribed processing function, and a memory means 22 which has a plurality of kinds of the processing function configuration data stored for the realization of prescribed extensive function and applies the processing configuration data selected from a plurality thereof stored to the FPGA 21 by the extensive function setting command.
