PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable versatile performances along with a higher reliability in the recognition of the patterns by shortening the time of starting the spin drums. SOLUTION: The distance is measured using a detection member provided with steps or inclinations on the outer circumference part corresponding to the patterns, as arranged aside from the reels, to acquire the positional information per symbol unit. To achieve the recognition of the symbol, the distance is computed from the phase difference between the reference projection signal emitted to the detection member and the received signal reflected from the detection member and the symbol number previously defined corresponding to the loaded distance data undergoes indexing (distance-symbol conversion TBL) to extract the valid pattern.
