A collision preventing member (9) for regulating the displacement in the focusing direction F of an object lens (1) is provided. The collision preventing member (9) is provided with a first limiting unit (9f) for regulating the displacement of the object lens (1) in a first region A1 while allowing the movable range in the focusing direction F of the object lens (1) in the first region A1 to overlap the surface deflection range of an optical disk, and a second limiting unit (9g) for regulating the displacement of the object lens (1) in a second region A2 so that the movable range in the focusing direction F of the object lens (1) in the second region A2 does not overlap the surface deflection range of an optical disk. A controller is provided for controlling the object lens (1) so that the object lens (1) is positioned within the second region A2 during a non-focusing operation by the object lens (1). Accordingly, the collision between an optical disk and an object lens can be prevented even under a vibration-afflicted environment.
