<p>A coolant composition comprising a glycol as a major ingredient, characterized by containing (a) 0.01 to 10 wt.% at least one of gallic acid, gallic acid derivatives, catechol and derivatives thereof, and salts of these and (b) 0.1 to 10 wt.% at least one of aliphatic carboxylic acids, aromatic carboxylic acids, and salts of these. Due to the incorporation of these ingredients, the composition is highly effective in preventing the metals used in the cooling system of an internal combustion engine, especially aluminum and aluminum alloys, from changing to black.</p> |
