PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cut down the operation cost of an air compressor by lowering the liquefaction temperature of gas nitrogen to lower the discharge pressure of the air compressor. SOLUTION: This air separator is provided with a high pressure distilling column and a low pressure distilling column for separating raw material air into oxygen and nitrogen; condensers for liquefying gas nitrogen separated by the high pressure distilling column, by evaporating liquid oxygen separated by the lower pressure distilling column; and a heat exchanger for raising the temperature of oxygen and/or nitrogen using the compressed raw material air as a heat source to produce product gas. The air separator has a plurality of condenser containers between the high pressure distilling column and the low pressure distilling column, and the condenser is installed in each condenser container. Each condenser is provided with a conduit for leading in gas nitrogen in the high pressure distilling column, and a conduit for extracting liquid nitrogen obtained in the condenser.
