PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent adhesion of magnetic particles to a photoreceptor, due to the generation of a potential difference between a magnetic brush charging member and the photoreceptor, when a charging region of the photoreceptor passes the magnetic brush charging member. SOLUTION: The application start timing of the voltage to be applied to the magnetic brush charging member on the farthest downstream of the photoreceptor is simultaneous with the arrival of the front end of the region of the photoreceptor charged by the upstream charging member or is earlier than the same, and the application end timing of the voltage applied to the magnetic brush charging member is, after the rear end of the region of the photoreceptor charged by the upstream charging member passes the charging position of the magnetic brush charging member.
