PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrochemical capacitor having a sufficient capacity. SOLUTION: The electrochemical capacitor comprises an anode 10, a cathode 20 and a nonaqueous electrolyte solution 30 contained in a case 50. The anode 10 contains a first conductive polymer and/or a first carbon material as an anode active substance. The cathode 20 contains a second carbon material coated with a second conductive polymer having at least a molecular structure including a repetition unit based on a monomer represented by a formula (I) as a cathode active substance. The oxidation reduction potential E1 [V] of the anode active substance and the oxidation reduction potential E2 [V] of the cathode active substance satisfy conditions of expression (1); 0.20≤(E2-E1)≤3.60.
