PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow easy formation of a water jacket around a cylinder. SOLUTION: The middle stage portion of a cylinder block 3 having the water jacket formed around the cylinder is divided into a cylinder liner part 21 constituting a wall face on the cylinder side and a cylinder outer wall part 32 constituting an outer wall encircling a portion as the water jacket with the portion as the water jacket therebetween. The cylinder liner part 21 has a flat upper deck portion 22 integrally formed on which the cylinder head is placed, when assembled, and on which the bottom face thereof abuts. The top face of the cylinder outer wall part 32 is formed as a bearing face 32a for supporting the upper deck portion 22 in abutment thereon. When the cylinder linear part 21 is mounted on the cylinder outer wall part 32, the water jacket is defined and formed around the cylinder by an outer peripheral face 24 of the cylinder liner part 21, an inner peripheral face 35 of the cylinder outer wall part 32 and the lower face of the upper deck portion 22.
