<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technique for avoiding a system error caused by distortion of a paper sheet in an image printing device and achieving effective paper jam detection. <P>SOLUTION: A delay means is provided in order to delay movement of a sensor arranged on the downstream side of a regist sensor until paper sheet length time set by a regist sensor passes, and paper jam detection is started again after the paper sheet length time passes. When the paper jam does not occur and the image printing device is normally operated, distortion of the paper sheet which causes a trouble after the paper sheet length time does not occur.
