PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a single core fiber/two-core conversion adapter for optical communication which allows an optical communication module for a two-core optical cable to be used in a terminal of an optical communication system using a single core optical cable. SOLUTION: A single core/two-core conversion adapter 10 for optical communication is provided with a dispersion element 3 for performing at least one of input and output of a light beam and performing at least one of separation and synthesis of light beams different by wavelength with respect to a single core optical cable, a two-core ferrules 4 holding a pair of optical fibers 5 and 6, and a pair of optical receptacles 7 and 8 connected to optical fibers from the two-core ferrule respectively, and a first optical path is formed between the dispersion element and the two-core ferrule correspondingly to single optical fiber of the two-core ferrule, and a second optical path is formed there correspondingly to the other, and the single core optical cable and the pair of optical receptacles are connected through the first and second optical paths and respective optical fibers.
