PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To subject a photoreceptor having a surface protective layer to an efficient and sufficient cleaning action without destroying the surface protective layer even when the number of recording sheets increases while the adhesion and deposition of foreign substances to a cleaning member are suppressed. SOLUTION: The apparatus includes the photoreceptor 101 which has the surface protective layer laminated with a charge generating layer and a charge transfer layer on a conductive support, a cleaning blade 110 which contains a photocatalyst substance for cleaning the toner remaining on the surface of the photoreceptor after transfer of a toner image and a UV irradiation device 111 which irradiates the vicinity of the contact point of the photoreceptor 101 with the cleaning blade 110 with UV rays. The adhesion of the foreign substances to the cleaning blade 110 is suppressed by the photooxidation action by the irradiation with the UV rays. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
