PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector and a method of correcting distortion of a projection image, which allow the distortion of the projection image to be corrected with a high precision on the basis of the length of a leg of the projector. SOLUTION: A plurality of information indication parts 12n indicating mutually different information are provided in order from one end 11b toward the other end 11c of a leg 11 which can be taken into and out of a bottom part of the projector. A light emission part 13 being in a prescribed position irradiates the information indication part 12 group with light. An information indication part 12n reflecting irradiation light from the light emission part 13, in the information indication part group 12 generates light to which the irradiation light from the light emission part 13 is changed by information indicated by the information indication part itself , and outputs the generated light as reflected light. A light reception part 14 being in a specific position receives the reflected light from the information indication part 12n and detects information indicated by the information indication part 12n which has outputted the received reflected light, from the received reflected light.
