PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for obtaining a substituted 2-mercapto-4,6-dihalogeno-s-triazine compound useful as an intermediate for producing a triazine-based herbicide in a high yield. SOLUTION: This method for producing the substituted 2-mercapto-4,6-dihalogeno-s-triazine compound expressed by formula (1) [wherein, X is fluorine, chlorine, bromine or iodine; and R is a 1-6C alkyl, a 1-6C alkenyl, a 1-6C alkynyl or the like] is characterized by performing the reaction of a cyanulic halide with R-SH [wherein, R is the same as above] in the presence of a metal catalyst.
