PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the industrially advantageous production of a 4,4'-divinyl-substituted aromatic compound. SOLUTION: The divinyl-substituted aromatic compound expressed by general formula (1) (X is (CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>n</SB>(n is an integer of 1-4), S, C(CH<SB>3</SB>)<SB>2</SB>, O, >SO<SB>2</SB>, >S=O or >C=O) is produced by reacting a diformyl-substituted aromatic compound expressed by general formula (2) with dibromomethane in an organic solvent in the presence of metallic zinc and an active chloride.
