A protection device for a brake (4) which is cooled by a coolant (3) in a vehicle (1), the brake (4) having a first active state in which a brake pressure (P) is established in the brake for braking of the vehicle (1). The device comprises a sensor (5) for measuring the temperature of the coolant (3) of the brake (4), and a means (6) interacting with the temperature sensor (5) and the brake (4) in order to reduce or remove the brake pressure (P) of the brake (4) in said first active state in the event of a temperature of said coolant (3) in excess of a predefined value.
