An automotive steering mechanism has electrically-powered servo mechanism with a housing (1) around the steering shaft (2) and an electric motor (3) located close the shaft. The motor powers a drive output wheel (7) coupled to second drive output wheel (13) to a ball screw drive (10) that is coupled to the steering shaft. The ball screw drive bearing is located within the output wheel (13).
