<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for initial activation of a polymer electrolyte fuel cell capable of reducing a necessary time required for activation, and of exerting its performance early in operation after the initial activation without needing a long-time continuous operation. <P>SOLUTION: This method for initial activation of a polymer electrolyte fuel cell includes: a humidification step for humidifying a fuel cell stack to a set humidification temperature; a minute-current operation step for applying a minute current to the humidified fuel cell stack; and an activation operation step for repeatedly performing an activation cycle a predetermined number of times. The activation cycle includes: a first operation step for operating the fuel cell to output a first preset voltage; a first pausing step where a potential state of an open circuit is no load; a second operation step for operating the fuel cell stack to output a second preset voltage; and a second pausing step where the potential state of the open circuit is no load. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
