PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a door closing device for sliding doors of storage furnishings of different types, such as a sideboard, a bookshelf, and a showcase, which can forcedly draw the sliding door to a door-closing side edge and can suitably decelerate the speed of the sliding door immediately before closure of the door, particularly when the sliding door is brought closer to the door-closing side edge, thereby contributing to good door closing operation, and stabilizes the operation of the sliding door at the time of starting the door opening/closing operation. SOLUTION: The door closing devices are mounted on an upper portion 30 and a bottom portion 32 of an opening 33 of a cabinet C on a door-closing side, and specifically a hook member 2 is rotatably mounted on a sliding member 1 for sliding in a suitable range in a casing A. Then the sliding member 1 is energized toward the door closing side via an elastic member 3, and by virtue of resistance T of a cushioning member 4 for decreasing the elastic force of the elastic member 3, upper and lower guide rail traveling bodies B<SB>1</SB>, B<SB>2</SB>traveling along upper and lower guide rails 17, 20, respectively, are moved from an engagement state with the hook member 2 in a door closing direction in the sliding region of the sliding member 1.
