PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a blocked polyisocyanate based on nonane triisocyanate which is useful for solvent-type coating compositions. SOLUTION: The blocked polyisocyanate comprises a reaction product of (a) nonane triisocyanate, (b) a pyrazole blocking agent and (c) a diol or a triol, where (i) the equivalent ratio of isocyanate groups in the component (a) to the hydroxy groups in the component (c) is 1:0.15 to 1:0.6 and (ii) the equivalent ratio of the isocyanate groups to the blocking groups is 1:0.4 to 1:0.85.
