PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply carry out high-image quality and full-color image recording by a multi-valued error diffusion method. SOLUTION: A thermal coloring medium enabled for each color of yellow, magenta, cyan, red, green, blue and black to color at different temperatures is used. Component values of error values of surrounding pixels are added to and subtracted from component values of original data of yellow, magenta and cyan of each pixel, respectively to be formed into pixel data. Respective provisional tone values are determined. Moreover, tone values for printing are obtained from the provisional tone values. Colors not to be colored or to be colored, and their tones are determined, which are made image output data. A heat energy to be applied to the thermal coloring medium is controlled on the basis of the image output data. Data processing of determining error values from the component values of the pixel data is carried out on the basis of the respective tone values for printing, and processing by the error diffusion method is carried out.
