PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hot pressing method and its apparatus capable of greatly reducing electric power consumption. SOLUTION: The apparatus is equipped with oppositely-facing first and second hot plates 11, 12, a hydraulic cylinder 1 for moving the second hot plate 12, one or more hydraulic pumps 4 for driving the hydraulic cylinder 1, a pressure sensor 3 for detecting an oil discharge pressure, and a controller 5 for controlling the number of revolution of the motor 6 that rotatably drives the hydraulic pumps or controlling the switching of these pumps 4. The apparatus is structured so that the number of revolution of the motor 6 and the switching of the plurality of hydraulic pumps 4 are controlled by the controller 5 into which a pressure signal 7 from the pressure sensor 3 or a rotation signal 8 of the motor 6 is inputted.
