<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image displaying apparatus which employs quartz wave plates and displays images of high contrast. <P>SOLUTION: The quartz wave plates which are each arranged between a polarizing beam splitter of a color separating-combining unit and a reflective spatial light modulator are each made of two elementary quartz plates, and an angle formed between slow axes of the two elemental quartz plates is within a range of 5 minutes to 15 minutes from a right angle. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
