<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retardation film that is useful for compensation of the visual characteristics of a liquid crystal display having practical properties such as heat resistance and mechanical strength, that is composed of fine particles having negative optical anisotropy useful also as an optical film and a transparent polymer, and that particularly desirably has a three-dimensional refractive index fulfilling a relation of nx<ny≤nz or nx≤ny<nz. <P>SOLUTION: The retardation film is composed of: fine particles having at least one or more kinds of negative optical anisotropies and having particularly a shape of a bar, a needle or a spindle with an aspect ratio of ≥1.5 and an average grain size of ≤500 nm; and a transparent polymer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
