<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent display device capable of preventing a pin hole defect and a short circuit failure in a contact hole part and a via hole part, of preventing a pattern defect of an organic EL layer, of preventing intrusion of oxygen or moisture by forming a dense cathode electrode, and of preventing a dark spot in a luminescent area of each pixel. <P>SOLUTION: This flat panel display device comprises; an insulating substrate; a lower thin film formed on the insulating substrate and having a first step and a first taper angle with respect to the substrate surface; and an upper thin film formed on the insulating substrate for reducing the taper angle of the lower film.
