<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make adjustable over a wide range the reaction force characteristic of a brake pedal as an operating shoe of a brake device and enhance the operating performance of the brake device at the time of sudden braking using the adjusting mechanism as described. <P>SOLUTION: A master cylinder 2 coupled with the brake pedal 1 is in communication with a stroke simulator 8 having a variable brake reaction force/stroke characteristic, and the reaction force characteristic of the brake pedal 1 is made adjustable by adjusting the distance S in the condition that a receptacle seat 14 is out of braking. A reaction force characteristic control unit 28 fed with a signal (running environment) from a radar 29 and signals (driving condition) from an accelerator opening sensor 31, a stroke sensor 32, etc. predicts the sudden braking operation of the driver from the running environment and the driving condition and emits a drive command to a motor 27 so as to establish the brake reaction force/stroke characteristics in which the brake reaction force of the brake pedal 1 lessens. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
