PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrodeless discharge lamp capable of preventing magnetic saturation without using any additional cooling member even at high temperatures. SOLUTION: In this electrodeless discharge lamp comprising an induction coil 1 in a recess portion cavity 2 provided in an envelope 3, winding 1a wound around a magnetic core 1b of the induction coil 1 is divided into a first solenoid portion 1aa and a second solenoid 1ab while they are separated by an intermediate portion 101. The center of discharge plasma produced by the induction coil 1 exists at the intermediate portion 101 of the winding 1a. By adopting such construction, local heat generation of the magnetic core 1b is suppressed, thereby preventing magnetic saturation. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
