PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a host computer to acquire the state information of the remote copy of a remote storage sub-system which is not directly connected to the host computer. SOLUTION: Each storage sub-system is provided with: a means which receives a state information acquisition instruction from a host computer; a means which analyzes the received instruction and determines whether the storage sub-system itself is an object; a means which, when the storage sub-system itself is not the object, transmits the instruction to a lower order storage sub-system connected to the storage sub-system itself; and a means which, when the state information from the lower order storage sub-system is received, transmits the state information to a higher order storage sub-system connected to the storage sub-system itself.
