The invention relates to a method for regulating the speed and engine rpm of a motor vehicle with a manual gearbox. Said method is characterised in that a shifting up probability (P) that the driver will select the next highest gear as the target gear (ZG) is calculated, when said driver engages the clutch during the speed regulation phase, that when the clutch is engaged, the engine rpm (N) is regulated in accordance with a time-dependent function that is selected using the shifting up probability (P) and the target gear (ZG) and that once the clutch has been released, the regulation of speed resumes.
